NOKIA PC SUITE BACKUP

Overview

Nokia Content Copier allows you to back up your phone's contents on a PC. You can back up the entire contents, or select what you want to back up. Backing up regularly helps you to avoid losing important data. You can restore the contents to the same phone model from which the backup was originally made, or import the contents to another Nokia phone model.
You can select which content types to back up or restore. Possible content types include:
  • Contacts from the phone memory. If you have contacts stored on the SIM card only, first copy them to the phone memory to include them in the backup. For detailed instructions, see your phone's user guide.
  • Calendar.
  • Notes.
  • Messages (text messages, multimedia messages and emails).
  • User files from the phone memory, hard disk, or memory card depending on what is available in your phone. User files include images, videos, music, and user documents. Large files may slow down the backup process. To avoid this, delete any unnecessary files from your phone, for example, files that you have previously saved on the PC using Nokia Phone Browser or Image Store.
  • Settings.
  • Internet bookmarks.

When backing up your phone contents, the content types available depend on the phone model that you are using. When restoring a backup file to the same phone model from which it was originally made or importing a backup file to another phone model, the content types available depend on what the backup file contains and which content types your phone model supports.

Starting to back up or restore

Use Nokia Content Copier regularly to back up your phone's contents on a PC. Backing up regularly helps you to avoid losing important data. You can restore the contents to the same phone model from which the backup was originally made, or import the contents to another Nokia phone model.

Note:

Your phone must be connected to the PC via cable, infrared, or Bluetooth wireless technology depending on the connection types available. When transferring large files between your phone and the PC, it is recommended that you use a USB cable connection (if available). With a USB connection you can transfer large files more quickly than with other connection methods.

To start to back up or restore

  1. Check that you are using the correct phone:
    • If you have several compatible phones connected to the PC, select the phone you want to use from the drop-down list in the Nokia Content Copier main window.
  2. Click either Back up or Restore.

Do not use or disconnect your phone while Nokia Content Copier is backing up or restoring the phone contents.

    Defining where to back up

The phone contents are backed up onto a single backup file on your PC. You can restore the backup file to the same phone model that was originally backed up, or import it to another phone model. Some content can only be restored to the same phone model from which it was originally backed up.

To define where to back up

    1. Define a name and a storage location for the backup file. Here you have two options:
      • You can use the default file name (consisting of the backup date and phone model) and location.
      • You can click Browse to save the backup file with another name or to another location.
    2. Click Next.

Do not use or disconnect your phone while Nokia Content Copier is backing up the phone contents.
Backup files have a file extension .nbu. The files must be kept in their original format. Any editing may cause problems when you try to restore or import a backup file to your phone.

    Backup completed

When the phone contents have been backed up, Nokia Content Copier displays a list that shows whether or not the content types were successfully backed up.
The following status icons are used:
    • The content type was backed up successfully.
    • Problems occurred while backing up the content type.
