Nigeria Union of Journalists, Lagos State council, says it will hold a “peaceful mass rally” on Thursday (today) to protest the incessant harassment and attacks on journalists in the state.

The council Chairman, Mr. Deji Elumoye, said the assault on Benedict Uwalaka, a photojournalist with Leadership Newspapers, was a vivid example of what journalists go through in the state in the course of their duties.

He added that the assault on Uwalaka on Thursday in the premises of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja was one too many.

He said, “The union’s congress has decided that a peaceful mass protest must be held to register our grievances.

“The rally will take off from our secretariat here at Ladi Lawal Press Centre and will move to the Governor’s Office, Lagos House, Ikeja.”
